It worked! Franky is now fully integrated into our group of three. On day two, we already dared to put them together since we witnessed chit-chatting and genuine interest between the three and him. There was no gnawing or aggressive tail wagging, but instead we saw how excited both parties were.

Foo, bottom of the goo hierarchy in this group, immediately acknowledged Franky as a superior. His brother Fighter, ex-alpha of the group, settled the issue in two minutes in which they nudged each other around and had a little box fight. So there was only Kimi missing – the new alpha of the group since their step dad left.

Unfortunately, it wasn’t as easy and friendly as with the other two. The fight for dominance got more and more aggressive until we eventually had to separate them again due to bites aiming at Franky’s neck. Franky had already sustained minor scratches, but once it was only malicious bites, we had to act and put the aggressor Kimi into the half of the cage in which Franky had been before.

It was heartwarming to watch how – once the aggressor was gone – Foo and Fighter went up to Franky, giving him comfort, cuddling with him, degupiling.

Kimi spent three days separated from his brothers and Franky and it was very obvious how unhappy he, but also his brother Foo, were about this. He learned his lesson and was allowed to join the others again. This time, the fight for dominance only lasted roughly 30 minutes after which we found them all cuddling together in their degu hut.

Today, 7 days after Franky’s arrival, they already are playing happily in their big wooden cage. They just had a photo session with us and we couldn’t be happier, seeing how amazing this group is functioning already. It’s as if they had always been together. A very pleasant sight! We are looking forward to many more happy moments with them <3

We now have a new, happy group of six!
